Soñador
We are telling OUR story. Nuestra historia finally coming to light.
Seventeen-year-old Miguel is an intelligent kid with a vivid imagination who can create comedy clubs out of thin air to get himself out of trouble. But, when Miguel finds out he’s undocumented, his friends, mixed-status family, and a shady immigration lawyer help Miguel deal with the trauma and find his voice onstage and in life.
Centered in Woodhaven, Queens, and Manhattan, NY, Miguel journeys from his inner-city John Adams high school to towering immigration offices, gloomy USCIS cubicles, and even glitzy Manhattan comedy clubs. At the end of the season, Miguel’s comedy takes him across the border to Canada, where he encounters his estranged and dangerous father. Everything around Miguel feels too big to handle, and bureaucratic settings loom over him like a threat at every turn.
The funds go to the creation of this story of a young undocumented person trying to find their place in the U.S. in Obama's America. 100% of the funds will go towards the production of the series, specifically for locations, actors, meals, wardrobe, props, and transportation. Additionally, our mission is to hire as many people touched by the undocumented experience for this project. From craft services to writers, the undocumented community will be represented.
Once you become a fellow Soñador in this project, you will be updated frequently on how the project is moving forward and how your support is helping make this series a reality.
We love you and thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts.
